A recognized higher education trailblazer, Slowe’s visionary initiatives and advocacy challenged dominant notions about the centrality of field of Student Affairs and Student Affairs professionals to the overall collegiate experience.

Lucy Diggs Slowe Day is celebrated on October 21st in Washington, DC. The day was declared by Mayor Muriel Bowser to honor the legacy of Lucy Diggs Slowe, an education pioneer and advocate for African-American women's higher education.
